In Orissa, it may be all over for the BJP and the Biju Janata Dal. But the umbrella NDA is still hopeful the BJD will go with them -- post-polls. NDA convener Sharad Yadav says: “The BJD has not entered into an alliance with any party. Only in Orissa do they have an alliance with the Left. We do not have allies at the moment. But we are hopeful to get them after the polls.” Biju Janta Dal ditched the right and turned to left, even though this is a positive development for the Left’s ambitious Third Front. They say the real partnerships would depend on the numbers after the elections. CPM politburo member Sitaram Yechury says: “In the last 20 years, coalitions have been formed only after the elections.” In the last 20 years, all strong alliances have happened only after elections. And how strong the Left-BJD alliance can be will depend on how the Third Front fares.
