In a major setback to the NCP in the state, Y. Sulanthung H. Lotha, ex MLA has resigned from both active and primary membership of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). He has also resigned as the National Vice Chairman of the Kissan Cell of the NCP with immediate effect from March 11. He said the entire party workers of the NCP from 39th Sanis Assembly constituency have also resigned en bloc from the party. Lotha in a statement said that the primary reason for his resignation pertained to “disillusionment” over the double standard policy of the NCP and also its alliance with communal forces in the northeast. “Being disillusioned with adoption of double standard policy in the NCP in the northeast, I have decided to resigned from the post of National Vice chairman Kissan, Delhi and also active and primary membership of the party with immediate effect,” Lotha said in his resignation letter addressed to the president NCP New Delhi. Lotha was a former NCP President Nagaland and have been in the party since its inception in the State.
