Unlike the earlier celebration, the DAN coalition Thursday celebrated its one-year in office with a thanksgiving service held at the State Banquet Hall where chief minister Neiphiu Rio exhorted DAN legislators and coalition partners to rededicate themselves in the service of the people. “There are still four years to go and it is time for us to rededicate themselves for the service of the people” , Rio reminded DAN legislators, party members and government officials in his thanksgiving message. “We gathered here this evening not to celebrate any victory or achievement but to thank God for his mercy and blessings” , he said. Rio called upon the legislators to admit before God all the mistakes they had committed and rededicate themselves to the service of the people. “We politicians do talk big things and are proud” he said. He also said though politicians tend to overstep their bounds, they should rededicate themselves to move forward in solving the Naga political issue. “We’ve committed to the persuasion of the Naga political issue and development and we’ve to go the extra mile”, he said. Rio also thanked all the legislators, coalition partners, government officials, civil societies, NGOs and students’ bodies for their support and cooperation to the DAN government. “Never before have we received such support of the civil societies, NGOs and students’ bodies. Thus we’ve come this far”, he added. Rev Anjo, General Secretary NBCC delivered the message on the occasion by saying that God had ordained three institutions- Family, Church and Government. While the family and Church has separate responsibilities, social and economical salvation has to be provided by the government. He also pointed out that a leader has to know the real need of the people and not the felt need and also called upon the gathering leaders not to work only for five years but for the next 20 or 25 years with vision. Further, he stressed the need for the leaders to fight the spirit of tribalism and nepotism prevailing in the society today. Citing the example of the world superpower United State of America, he pointed out that USA is leading the world today because it put God first in everything including Political, Social and Economy. In political they’ve put God first in their constitution, similarly in economy too they have put God first by inscribing “In God I trust” in currency (US dollar). Moreover, the people of US are deeply rooted spiritualism and the country still sends the highest missionaries across the world. Earlier, Dr. Ngangshi K. Ao, Minister for PHE in his exhortation reminded that the elected representative must acknowledge the sovereignty of God. He also stressed on the importance of a leader to have visions. Dr. T. M. Lotha chaired the thanksgiving service.
