Two former candidates including an independent candidate, Kevichutso Doulo from 17th Chizami Assembly Constituency and former NCP candidate, Mmhonlumo Kikon , from 40th Bhandari Assembly Constituency have joined the Congress party. Introducing newly joined members to media at press conference Friday at Congress Bhavan, Kohima, NPCC president, KV Pusa said that joining of two young dynamic leaders into Congress party would help the party, benefit the youth and strengthen the party. PCC president informing that AICC had already announced the name of K. Asungba Sangtam for the Lok Sabha seat asserted that KA Sangtam was strong and energetic leader who always works for the betterment of Nagas, especially for the poor people. “During his tenure as MP he had immensely contributed to the country in telecommunications and also judiciously utilized his MP Funds” Pusa said and urged upon the people of Nagaland to elect Asungba in the forthcoming parliamentary elections. Congress MLA Hewoto, who was also present at the conference, welcomed the two leaders for joining the Congress party. MLA underlined that Congress led UPA was coming to power with no doubt in the centre and that Congress candidate Asungba was capable and experience leader. He expressed hoped that people would repose their faith in him (Asungba) and elect him as the MP, who, the MLA described can bring development in the state. Commenting on resignation of four MLAs, Hewoto said they were rootless leaders and has sold out their seat and that people should give them a befitting reply by voting against them. He claimed that Congress party would do well in the parliamentary seat and four by-polls. Meanwhile, explaining why he joined the Congress, Mmhonlumo Kikon said despite the fact that the NCP remained constituent member of the UPA, its decision to join hands with the communal forces in Nagaland and the entire northeast, had made him wary of the secular credentials of the NCP in the north east. Former independent candidate Kevichutso Doulo said Congress was the best party, having best platform. Former candidate disclosed that he had already applied Congress ticket from 17th Chizami assembly seat and have become an asset of the party.
