RJD to support Asungba Santgam

In a major boost to the Congress, the state RJD has decided to support the candidature of K. Asungba Sangtam for the lone state Lok Sabha seat. Announcing this at a press conference, RJD Nagaland Unit President, Khetovi Kinny said the party decided to support Congress candidate K. Asungba Sangtam as he was the right person, who could represent the Naga people in the parliament. Kinny said the RJD wholeheartedly supported Asungba and also urged the people to vote and elect him to the parliament. “Irrespective of party affiliations all should support him,” he appealed. Thanking the RJD’s decision to support Congress candidate, NPCC President KV Pusa on behalf of the NPCC, CLP and Congress party acknowledged the wisdom of the RJD for their wisdom and stated that the Congress was optimistic and would be able to wrest the seat from the NPF in the elections. Pusa said the “Aya Ram Gaya Ram” politics happen on the eve of election and that he was not surprised by those resigning from the Congress and joining other parties as it would have no impact on the Congress. Pusa informed that the Congress and RJD would jointly campaign in some areas. Secretary General RJD, Tali Pongener acknowledged the Congress for selecting K. Asungba Sangtam as their candidate for the election, adding “he was the right person for the right job.” He recognized Asungba as an experienced and seasoned politician, whereas the NPF nominee had no experience of being either an MLA or MP in past. Leader of opposition, Chingwang Konyak said he was happy that the RJD had taken the right decision to support Asungba, knowing his capability and the integrity of a candidate, who can do good work for the people of Nagaland. Asked whether the Congress and RJD could come together for the 41 Tizit Assembly constituency by –elections, leaders of both the parties, though sounded optimistic, preferred to say “things can be sorted out.” Ex-candidate and Chairman Parliamentary Board RJD, L. Inazhe Sema said the RJD party in India believed in secularism and that it would continue to uphold and advocate secularism with which it would also have close affinity with the Congress. On the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Inazhe said the RJD would support the Congress whether they win or lose. He said the RJD also had scrutinized the candidates and came to conclusion that K. Asungba was the right person and decided to support him. Meanwhile, the press conference was also attended by N.I. Wati, ex-candidate RJD and general secretary RJD Nagaland state and Ahuto Zhimo general secretary, RJD Nagaland state.
