State chief minister, Neiphiu Rio has written to his Assam counterpart, Tarun Gogoi to personally intervene in the continued “organized violence” perpetrated against the indigenous Zeme Nagas of NC Hills allegedly by the armed DHD activists. He asked Gogoi to ensure that the violence was brought to a halt and also to take steps for safe return and rehabilitation of those people whose properties have been destroyed in the “targeted violence.” Rio said the violence has resulted in the exodus of hundreds of Zeme Nagas to the neighbouring states of Manipur and Nagaland where they were taking refuge for safety. “The Naga civil society have expressed their anger and outrage at this planned and systematic targeting of the Zeme Nagas, because they see it as a form of ethnic cleansing, amounting to grave violation of human rights,” Rio conveyed.
