All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association (ANSTA), Dimapur, has appealed State Election Commission (SEC) to avoid deputing teachers for electoral duties as it affected the “normal school schedule” and academic lives of the students.”
Asserting that the quality of education in the state still lacks “momentum”, ANSTA unit president, P Vashum in a release said one of the key responsible reasons was “forced” absence of teachers.
ANSTA opined that regularity of teachers was a must to enhance the quality of education in government schools.
Stating that to let the students attend class was often a Herculean task, ANSTA unit felt if teachers were to be pulled out of their class rooms for government duty it would further jeopardize the efforts of instilling regularity in children.
The unit also asserted that government’s directive of taking “stern action” against teachers failing to attend election duty was “unwarranted and unjustified.”
Further, the association has appealed responsible authority to be more lenient and flexible towards the deputation of teachers for electoral duty.
