Reacting to the statement issued by the NPF, the Congress made a strong case for its Lok Sabha candidate K. Asungba Sangtam by describing the current election as an issue between the “Congress’ capability and achievements versus NPF’s corruption and nascent personality.” NPCC chairman media cell R.Pahino said Asungba was the “people’s ambassador to Delhi”; a God fearing person with strong moral standing and acknowledged personality and a “a dynamic leader, erudite, perfect, down-to-earth who can mingle with all sections of people whether high or low, a refined gentleman.” He said Asungba had proven himself during his two terms as MP and has no equal even among any of the “tall leaders of the NPF and therefore, the “right man for the right job”. Further, it said Asungba was a genuine and a true leader who has already “ built an effective and well-oiled political lobby in Delhi”. Asungba would not let Nagas down as his past records prove he projected and presented issues and problems “ in its right prespective, particularly the protracted Naga political issue in line with the consistent effort given by the NPCC for hastening and expediting the Naga peace process to its logical conclusion.” In comparison, it said, while “Asungba is politically a mountain, the NPF candidate is not even a mole hill,” which people all over Nagaland were aware of. The Congress said people are with Asungba and therefore, his position was “safe and sound”.
