In a show of reaffirmation against bogus voters and non-residents of Purana Bazar(which falls under 3-Dimapur-III,where by election will be held on April 16), the residents of Purana Bazar have warned that strict action will be taken against any non-resident or bogus voter who attempted to cast vote. Purana Bazar Council Chairman, H. Khutovi Awomi also cautioned various political outfits from indulging in the electoral malpractice. The procession carried out by a few hundred residents many carrying banners and placards that read “No Outsiders Allowed”, “We Want Free and Fair Election”, etc led by the GB marched from the ISBT junction to Nahabari. Awomi said the procession was a “non-political march” aimed at spreading awareness of conducting peaceful elections within their jurisdiction. He said appropriate measures have been taken by the council in order to identify the right voters. Meanwhile, the GBs and DBs Joint Forum Dimapur and DNSU have appealed all the political parties contesting in the upcoming elections, especially 3 Dimapur III A/C, to maintain a peaceful atmosphere and ensure free and fair election. Convener G.B’s and D.B’s Joint Forum Dimapur, Pikuto Shohe and DNSU president, Solomon L. Awomi through a joint statement also requested all factions to restrain from issuing violence and threats against candidates or general public on the polling day. “Let the people freely exercise their adult franchise and elect their own representatives,” they appealed. The two bodies also requested the administration and police to deploy more forces in sensitive areas while it promised to extend full co-operation.
