DIMAPUR: Hillock, teak and gamari plantations were completely destroyed by forest fire in Peletkie village under Peren district. Some unidentified miscreants allegedly set fire in the forest of Peletkie village during mid-March, threatening the rich natural plantation and ecosystem. Even when villagers of Peletkie village tired to extinguish the forest fire throughout the night, the miscreants for the second time set fire to the forest which could not be brought under control despite every effort to save the plantations.
According to Peletkie Village Council Chairman Ariang, the fire ragged on for few days and ultimately destroyed the whole natural plantation belonging to every household of the village. Condemning the unmindful burning of forests, Peletkie Village Council has called for attention of the government to rescue villagers in the event of such huge loss caused by forest fire.
