The coalition partners of dismissed Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA) government would launch its ‘election-cum protest rally’ here on Saturday. The district administration had already imposed section 144 CrPC following the MPA decision to launch fast unto death to protest against the imposition of President’s Rule in the politically fragile state. Ever since the dismissal of the MPA government and the subsequent imposition of Article 356, MPA had chalked out two pronged strategy to fight against the “highly questionable and unconstitutional act” of Meghalaya governor R S Mooshahary to recommend President’s Rule, despite the MPA scarping through the vote of confidence with the Assembly Speaker Bindo M Lanong casting his vote in favour of MPA on March 17. “We have decided to launch our Lok Sabha election campaign and explaining to the general public on the unwarranted imposition of President’s Rule in the state,” former chief minister and United Democratic Party chief, Dr Donkupar Roy said. East Khasi Hills District deputy commissioner, B Dhar said the rally would be videotaped as per the direction of the election commission.
