Zeliangrong Baudi – Assam, Manipur and Nagaland ZB (AMN) has condemned the recent violence unleashed allegedly by the Dimasa (Kachari) upon the Naga villagers in North Cachar (NC) Hills killing four persons and critically injuring many in their “evil intention” to grasp the lands belonging to the Nagas. ZB (AMN) in a statement issued by its president, K. Ningtangpou alleged that the Dimasa people killed four persons including Nampuidungbe and Haikiateung of Tungjie village on March 19 and Tsuilungbe and Echeulung of Boureneu village on March 23 and left many persons critically injured. It also alleged that the Dimasas have driven out inhabitants of nine Naga villages from their own village that included Takluaram, P. Baureneu, Puateujam, Nrimbanglua, Hegualua, Heuwangbaram, Himraichak, N. Baureneu and Guiluang villages. The Baudi said that about nine villages were deserting their village and taking shelter in neighbouring Tousem area in Manipur and Nagaland and that immediate relief of food, cloth and life saving medicine were required. Relief camps have been set up in Laisong village where more than 400 homeless people have been sheltered, it added. Taking serious note of the violence, the Baudi said the situation would have “very ugly consequences” if the Dimasas do not come to their “human senses” and that it could affect Assam, Nagaland and Manipur unless these three state governments check the violence in time. Stating that the Naga people in NC Hills have been settled there since times immemorial without any interference from other neighbouring communities, the ZM (AMN) said the Naga people would be compelled to protect their own people and their land at this very juncture. “We appeal the Dimasa to come back to their senses and live like civilized human respecting other community” the Baudi said. It also appealed the Assam government to seriously deal with political will to curb the violence and compensate and extend immediate relief to the affected people and also for the resettlement of the effected people. The Baudi further appealed the governments of Manipur and Nagaland to take up immediate measures to extend all possible assistance and to apprise the Assam government to deal with the matter seriously and immediate stop such “ugly incident.” AZSU appeal to Assam Diphu Correspondent The all Zeliangrong Student’s Union, Assam Manipur and Nagaland has strongly condemned the cool blooded murder of two persons identified as Nampuidungle by armed DHD(J) Militants, who attacked the village at around 8:00pm on March 19. A statement issued by the the Naga Students’ body said the armed DHD(J) militants first called the villagers out from their homes on the pretext of asking clothes. Later the villagers were made to line up and then shot at point blank range. Further on March 23, in Choto Nianglo (Poreneu) NC Hills two others- Diseulungbe Kume and Mieulungbe Newme- were shot dead while Lunglakambe Newme was critically injured. “The Zeliangrong community and Dimasa have been living peacefully since time immemorial in NC Hills, but recently the DHD(J) Black Widow faction is unleashing a region of terror creating havoc and insecurity between the cordial relationship of Zeliangrong and Dimasa community” the release said. Further, the release said the peace loving Zeliangrong Nagas have been shocked by the terror unleashed by the outfit. The AZSU(AMN) also accused the DHD(J) Black Widow faction of planning to forcibly evict the Zeliangrong Nagas from NC Hills, who have been the indigenous inhabitants of the land and living in the adjacent states of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland. The association warned that the people would rise to the occasion to thwart “such sinister designs” at any cost and also cautioned that the peaceful nature of the Zeliangrong people should not be misconstrued as a sign of weakness. Further the AZSU has appealed to the government of Assam to provide adequate security to the concerned people in NC Hills in order to save the innocent lives and property of the Naga villagers.
