With NDA’s Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani’s ‘’purported’’ support for separate states for two tribes of Assam during an election rally creating a storm in the state, BJP’s central leader and North East coordinator Harendra Pratap today claimed that Advani’s statement had been misquoted. Advani’s statements were misconstructed. He, at no point of time, promised any autonomous state during the speech, Pratap, who was also present at the rally, said here. Advani had reportedly promised of granting autonomous states to Dimasa and Karbi tribes of Assam, if the NDA was voted to power, at an election rally in Kheroni in Karbi Anlgong district on March 25. Pratap clarified that a few people had submitted a memorandum to Advani putting forward the autonomous state demand under Artcile 244 (A). Advani had said the NDA will work for development and bring all willing parties to sit together and sort out their differences. And in an open and truly democratic atmosphere there won’t be demands for autonomous states, Pratap said. Several ethnic tribes of Assam, including Dimasa and Karbi, had been waging armed struggle for autonomous states.
