In view of the poor workmanship undertaken in the on-going Sanis-Mekokla road construction especially between Sanis-Lakhuti villages, Lakhuti Students’ Union undertook spot verification on January 10 and found the works were not in accordance with the directive/s of the government. In this connection, Lakhuti Students’ Union held a meeting with contractors on January 13 at Lakhuti Village Community Hall and decided that road width should be 12 ft. except in narrow areas, side drain should be constructed as per government specification, stones that were sprinkled with lime should be used for dressing only, stones should be used sufficiently since the quality of the stones was poor and spreading should be kept pending if road rollers were not used. A press release issued by Penthungo Y. Yanthan, President, Lakhuti Students’ Union stated that however, with the contractors going back with their commitment as decided during the meeting, LSU held an emergency meeting on March 20 where it was decided to appeal the authorities to immediately review and investigate the ongoing Sanis-Mekokla road construction particularly Sanis-Lakhuti area. Failing which, Lakhuti Students’ Union said would be compelled to initiate its own course of action.
