Nihokhu Area Students’ Union (NASU) has strongly condemned the “brutal act” of the four IRB jawans who had allegedly attempted to “murder” one Ihuto Awomi at Naga United Village on March 27. NASU president, Ghotoi K. Zhimo in a statement said beating up mere public “mercilessly” without any specific reasons during off duty was an “inhuman act” of the jawans. The Union urged the authority to immediately look into the matter seriously and award the jawans severe punishment and deliver justice to the victim’s family. Meanwhile, the Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF) has also condemned the alleged physical assault meted out to Ihuto Awomi by four IRB jawans without any “valid reason.” NLSF demanded that the camp commander identify those involved and forward the matter to the authority to take disciplinary action on those “errant jawans.” “Assaulting and harassing the innocent civilian without any valid reason is not the duty of the IRB personnel, in fact their responsibility is bound to protect and give peaceful security to the public,” NLSF president, Heroto Chishi in a statement asserted. Pointing out that such incidents were going out of control because of failure on the part of the responsible authority, the NLSF urged the state authority to take proper measures to control such “awful acts.”
