Addressing another campaign in the run up to the Lok Sabha election, DAN leaders led by the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio Monday addressed a large gathering at Kiphire public ground. Rio said unlike the sitting MP Wangyuh Konyak who had betrayed the people, the DAN consensus candidate, CM Chang as a seasoned leader would not betray the people. Rio reminded that Wangyuh had won the previous election with a margin of more than four lakh votes but his betrayal in Parliament was a betrayal to all Nagas who had voted for him. On the Naga Consultative Meet held in Kohima, he said Congress was the only party which boycotted it while the underground groups participated. He accused the Congress of trying to suppress smaller states like Nagaland where Presidents’ Rule was imposed under the most undemocratic circumstances. Rio said the unique culture of the Nagas could be protected and preserved only by a regional party. Speaking on the political issue, he said undergrounds and over-grounds were all members of the same family and that the NPF worked for the welfare of the people continuously striving to play the role of active facilitator. Planning Minister TR Zeliang highlighted the advantages of being an MP from a regional party especially in the context of Nagaland. He said the NPF will be on equal with other political parties as it was a recognised party and its MP will have opportunity to participate debates. Others who spoke at the rally included representatives of DAN coalition partners, Parliamentary Secretary, Heno and MLA, Kipilli Sangtam. Home Minister, Imkong Imchen was also present in the rally.
