After the last date for filing nominations expired on March 30, three candidates remained in fray for the lone Nagaland parliamentary Lok Sabha seat. Returning Officer (RO) for Nagaland parliamentary seat, H. K. Khullu said that the nomination papers of CM Chang (NPF), K. Asungba Sangtam (Congress) and Dr. Rilanthung Odyuo All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) were found in order during the scrutiny, which took place on Tuesday. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is fixed on April 2. Khullu said the electioneering process had already begun and that the parliamentary election would be conducted smoothly. The RO informed that 30 additional companies drawn from Central Para Military Forces (CPMF) had already started arriving for election and have proceeded to different locations in the state. He further informed that the services of Village Guards, about 45 companies, would assist the various state police forces for the conduct of the elections, while the Assam Rifles’ role would be to provide “environment protection”.
