Field demonstration in Ungma, Kubza

Ongpangkong North Block of ATMA Mokokchung conducted two field demonstrations at two villages in the block in Ungma and Kubza on March 31. The demonstration at Ungma was conducted on soil conservation and land shaping where SDO (Soil) and Convenor BTT of the block Aodangba was the resource person. He shared and interacted with the farmers on the importance of soil conservation especially relating it to Jhum context and suggested measures and methods that could be adopted on the field. Practical demonstration on dry bench terraced making using A- frame was imparted to the 10 farmers (including 3 women) who participated in the demonstration. In addition to the soil conservation seeds of quality protein maize (QPM) seeds were provided to the farmers for trail and demonstration, method of planting and cultural operations for maize. Another field demonstration on package of practices for chilly was held at Kubza Village where horticulture inspector and BTT member Imotemjen was the resource person. Seven farmers participated in this demonstration. All agronomic practices relating to chilly production- plot preparation, nursery raising, transplanting, cultural operations, disease and pest management and control and harvesting were the topics that were covered. Method of nursery bed preparation was demonstrated on the field, where farmers would be provided with further follow-up programmes to assist them in their ongoing field activities.
