St. Joseph Church, Chumukedima, celebrated its annual feast in honour of the patron saint St. Joseph on April 26 with Rev. Fr. Carolus Neisalhour Angami, Vicar General of the Diocese, Kohima, as main celebrant for the Eucharistic Celebration, concelebrated by hosts of priests. In his homily, Fr. Carolus mentioned that all people were in need of God’s grace and mercy and added that the reality of sin was not destroyed by the death and resurrection of Jesus on the Cross but had made possible to be absolved by the blood of Jesus if one confessed sins and acknowledged Jesus as one’s Lord and Saviour. He also exhorted the congregation to follow the example of St. Joseph, whose feast is celebrated on April 26. Enthusing the celebration by stating that St. Joseph was a foster father of Jesus Christ who has hardly spoken anywhere in the gospels but venerated the world over for his silent action and faithfulness, Fr. Carolus also mentioned about the need of leaders who are ‘wordless’ but do more deeds than they speak. Meanwhile, the celebration was marked by reception of ‘Holy Communion’ by children for the first time and the Eucharistic procession and fellowship meal for all who attended. It may be mentioned here that on May 1, 1955, Pope Pius XII, instituted the liturgical feast of St. Joseph, the worker as a defender, a shepherd and a father for all who labour in the world. The celebration was marked by the reception of Holy Communion by children for the first time and the Eucharistic Procession and Fellowship Meal for all. There were about 2500 people participated in the celebration.
