In the presence of large gathering of the faithful, 55 members of the Catholic community at Tesophenyu received the ‘Sacrament of Confirmation’ on April 26. The ‘Sacrament of Confirmation’ was administered by Rt. Rev. Jose Mukala, DD, Bishop of Kohima during the Eucharistic celebration concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Devaraj, parish priest of St. Joseph Parish, Tseminyu and Rev. Fr. Benny Varghese.
Among the seven sacraments in the Church, Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation together constitute the ‘Sacraments of Christian’ initiation, where the recipient of this sacrament receive the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, love and fear of the Lord.
The Catholic Faith was brought to Tesophenyu village through the instrumentality of a zealous Angami, Paulus Pralie, posted in Tseminyu who was then an Agricultural Inspector. It was in 1967 the first baptisms were administered. Now the Catholic Community of Tesophenyu village is being looked after by St. Josephs Parish, Tseminyu.
