Showuba gang-rape case deferred

The court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Thursday deferred the examination of witness and evidence involving the of Showuba gang-rape case, till May 27. Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Hutoi Achumi said the deferment was made since only one out of 18 witnesses turned up for the examination. He also said that in view of the sensitive nature of the case, a thorough examination of the witnesses was required. The three accused, identified as Tohovi Ayemi (21), son of Ato Ayemi of Vihokhu village; Mughato aka Mughaka Yepthomi (21), son of late Imato Yepthomi of Khehokhu village and William Awomi (22), son of Kiyekhe Awomi of Khehokhu village are charged with abduction, molestation and rape while the fourth accomplice Akito Zhimo, son of Hevukhu of Vihokhu village has been charged with abduction. Thursday’s examination of witness was attended by members of Naga Women Hoho, Dimapur. It may be recalled that on August 27, 2008 a 29-year-old pregnant woman was gang-raped by three youth who abducted her near Old Showuba gate.
