GPRN/NSCN has owned up the responsibility of Saturday’s shooting incident near SBI evening branch, Dimapur, while admitting that it was a result of “mistaken identity” and tendered unconditional apology to two victims, their families, the students’ community and Naga people. GPRN/NSCN in a press statement issued by its publicity cell said the shooting incident was most unfortunate and unwarranted which caused grievous injury to SKK assembly speaker, Benito Swu, son of Khuhoi of Nitoyi village and and former KDSSU president, Atoka Chophy, son of Nishito Chophy of Nikiye village. Maintaining that the incident occurred when its cadres on duty were informed of the presence of extortionists in the area, the GPRN/NSCN said “Naga Army” personnel while obeying the orders failed to assess the overall situation and identity of the individuals. Corroborating its stand, GPRN/NSCN said two days back, five members extortionist gang was apprehended from the same area and taken to its camp. Meanwhile, GPRN/NSCN assured that proper inquiry would be initiated and appropriate disciplinary action be taken at the earliest. Stating that it has always strived to be on the side of the Naga people in any given situation, the GPRN/NSCN said it does not serve any purpose to justify the error of judgment resulting in the injury of the victims. “To justify every wrong doing is to be on the wrong side of Naga history,” GPRN/NSCN asserted.Expressing hope that its apology would “elevate the Nagas to a higher ground where there is no room for vengeful instigation”, GPRN/NSCN assured all cooperation in the recovery process of the two victims.
