Condemning the shootout at Church Road, Dimapur on Saturday afternoon, where two students leaders were injured, Nagaland home minister, Imkong L. Imchen described it as the “ugliest incident.” “When most of the individuals and organizations are trying to contain violence, this incident has darkened the atmosphere,” he said while addressing a press conference along with Dimapur DC and SP in the SP’s office. Stating that the “blood thirsty characters should be eradicated,” Imchen urged all individuals and groups to condemn the incident. He appreciated the NGOs, civil societies and underground leaders for the “peaceful situation” and also appealed the underground groups to stop fratricidal killings. Dimapur DC Maongwati disclosed that he received confirmation from a “Kilonser” NSCN (K) claiming responsibility for the incident and that it was a case of “mistaken identity.” Both the Home Minister and the DC informed that they have requested the NSCN (K) leaders to hand over the culprits. The DC requested the student organizations and Hohos to restrain from organising bandhs and said the district administration was doing their best to maintain a peaceful atmosphere Dimapur SP, Liremo said that an enquiry would be set up to find out as to why there was only one police personnel in the vehicle.
