All Nagaland School Teacher’s Association (ANSTA), Dimapur unit, has resolved to boycott classes from Monday until the education department clears their salaries, which have been kept pending for the last three months. Salaries of the teachers have been kept on hold on grounds of identifying fake appointments. ANSTA Dimapur unit, P. Vashum in a press statement said it had been three long months since the ‘genuine’ teachers have been made to put up with the department’s investigation process. “We have cooperated with the department long enough and can’t bear the sufferings of our families anymore,” Vashum said adding that several representations and appeals to the department on the plight of the ‘genuine’ teachers have not produced any tangible results. The ANSTA Dimapur unit said it was in support of the state government’s decision to clean up the educational system by identifying ‘bogus appointments,’ but disagreed with the approach of the government in cleaning up the system where genuine teachers were being victimized. The ANSTA unit said that the students of government run schools in the district would be largely affected if the education department remained “unrelenting” to the needs of the teachers. It may be mentioned that the ANSTA, Dimapur unit had earlier submitted a representation to school education director over non-payment of salaries stating that the teachers were being ‘punished’ for no fault of theirs.
