Maruti gearing up for 660cc car to challenge Tata Nano

Gone are the days when the Maruti 800 used to be the cheapest car in India. Maruti Suzuki certainly used to be the undisputed monarch in the small car market, before the arrival of Tata Nano. Now, Tata Motors has snatched the Maruti Suzuki’s crown by launching the cheapest Nano car in the Indican small car market. Soon, Tata Nano, with a starting price of Rs 115,000, has become a dream car of people, particularly middle class families. Earlier, the car of middle class families used to be the Maruti 800. The Tata Nano, also dubbed as “People’s Car,” is a rear-engined, four-passenger small city car built by Tata Motors; its “length” is 3,100 mm (122 in), its “width” is 1,500 mm (59.1 in), and its “height” is 1,600 mm (63 in). The Tata Nano is 4-door hatchback sedan equipped with small yet effective 624cc, 2 cylinder SOHC petrol Bosch multi-point fuel injection (single injector) all aluminum (38 cu in) engine. The engine is good for 35 bhp. The car can run at top speed of 105 kmph.The Tata Nano got wonderful opening. Lakhs of Indian people have already applied for the car and lakhs more in the queue. Many of the small car customers are switching over to Tata Nana from Maruti 800, which is priced at around little more than Rs. 2 lakhs Disturbed by the market impact of Tata Nano, Maruti is planning to bring out a 660cc car. According to Market reports, Maruti is looking to launch its 660cc car to challenge Tata Nano. Suzuki already has 600cc models, such as Cervo Mode and Alto running in Japan. Thus, it’s possibility that Maruti Suzuki could roll out a 660cc car to keep its hold on the small car market of India.
