Condolences on death of Ex-minister Sethricho Sangtam

Former Minister, S Sethricho Sangtam passed away here at Zion Hospital Thursday at around 4:30 p.m. after a prolonged illness. He was 65 and is survived by wife, daughter and son. He was first elected to the assembly from 59-Seyochung-Sitimi Assembly Constituency in the 7th general election in 1989 as Congress candidate. He was appointed as minister for veterinary and animal husbandry in the K.L.Chishi ministry in 1990. He won the elections from the constituency in the 8th and 9th general elections and held the cabinet berth as minister for excise, home guards, local self government, cooperation and labour and employment. Before joining politics, late Sethricho began his career as functional manager in department of industries and responsible positions in various students’ forums. Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, led in conveying condolences to Mrs Sethricho. In his message, Rio expressed “deep pain” at the passing away of late Sethricho who he said, had made many contributions to the Nagas during his political career. Stating that the demise of late Sethricho was a great loss to both the Nagas and the Sangtams, Rio said his wife also joined him in conveying heartfelt condolences to Mrs Sethricho and the bereaved family members and prayed that the Almighty would grant rest to the departed and strength and courage to the family to withstand the loss. Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Speaker, Kiyanilie Peseyie in his condolence said he received the news with a heavy heart. Recounting late Sethricho Sangtam’s political career, the NLA speaker said he was a principled politician and a true fighter for social justice. Asserting that in his death the state has lost an illustrious leader, the speaker said late Sethricho would always be remembered for his diverse contribution towards Naga society. The speaker also conveyed heart felt condolences to the family members of the deceased and prayed Almighty God to grant them strength and courage to withstand the irreparable loss. In another message, former chief minister and K.L. Chishi, MLA expressed deep shock at the demise of former minister S Sethricho Sangtam. In his condolence message K.L. Chishi described late Sethricho Sangtam as a man of pleasant personality and conveyed condolences to Mrs. Sethricho Sangtam and prayed that the Almighty grant rest to the departed and comfort to the bereaved family. Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has said it deeply mourned the demise of former minister Sethricho. In a condolence message, NPCC president, KV Pusa described late Sethricho as a loyal and dedicated Congressman till the last. Expressing sadness over the passing away of Sethricho, the NPCC said it was a loss not only to the Naga people but also to the Congress party as late Sethrichho dedicated his whole life for the welfare of downtrodden people. The party also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray Almighty God to grant solace to them. BJP state president Ato Yepthomi and colleagues conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members and further prayed for the soul of the departed leader. Meanwhile, Seyochung Area Students’ Union (SASU) has also mourned the demise of late former minister S Sethricho Sangtam. SASU general secretary in a communiqué said the demise of late Sethricho Sangtam has caused a great loss to the entire area, Sangtam community and Nagas in general.
