Songs and music filled the air inside the Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home as its inmates and caretakers young and old celebrated the 36th annual Kohima Orphanage Day on Thursday.
Zaputuoü expressed her wish that the Orphanage Day would be officially recognized and observed, stating that orphans needed to be recognized in the society. She called upon the citizens to step forward and celebrate the day with orphans in the following years.
Special highlights of the programme included songs and dances presented by the inmates. Outstanding inmates in the field of music, studies, gardening, discipline, etc were felicitated with gifts.
The Kohima Orphanage Day is observed every year in remembrance of all orphans in the state. The day also coincided with the death of an orphan boy on April 16.
