Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) candidate for the Lok Sabha, CM Chang has accused the opposition Congress for what was described as a “false propaganda” that he shot and critically injured a GB of Noksen village on Thursday. Chang said the Congress had spread the “totally false propaganda” against him in order to create confusion and mislead the people. In his statement, CM Chang clarified that he was in Kohima on Thursday, and therefore the question of such incident taking place did not arise. He said the rumour was “just another attempt of the Congress at character assassination” and spoke volumes of how far the party was willing to go in order to “mislead the people and carry out a strategy of spreading lies.” Chang said the Congress’ strategy explained its pathetic position and the kind of “mental make-up” that its leaders have. “If they think that they can fool the Naga people with such lies and wild allegations, then they are totally wrong and they are undermining the wisdom of the Naga people,” CM Chang said. He also said it was another pointer to the people what sort of a party the Congress was in Nagaland. In another statement, Chang expressed appreciation to government machinery including administration, police and election department for conducting peaceful elections all over the state “except in a few pockets where enemies of democracy in collaboration with the Congress tried to disrupt the polls.” Chang also expressed appreciation to all the rank and file of DAN and supporters of independent MLAs and the people who supported him in the elections with their precious votes. It may be pointed out that word about the alleged incident involving Chang had spread like wildfire in various parts of the state. Communication links with Tuensang were disturbed when newspersons tried to verify the report with the district authorities there. In addition, other rumours began doing the rounds leaving many baffled as to the nature of such accounts.
