Responding to the NPCC statement on April 16, the Chizami unit of the NPF has instead accused Congress candidate K.Therie of violating the election code of conduct by entering the polling booth at Razeba armed with a pistol, checking identity slips of voters and disallowing “genuine voters” from casting their votes. It may be recalled that the NPCC had accused NPF supporters of assaulting Congress candidate K.Therie along with his companion V.Lasuh at Razeba when the former detected an impersonator and advised him to cast vote in his own name. The statement issued by Sapunyi Zholia, NPC press secretary of the party’s Chizami unit, alleged that the Congress candidate K.Therie had “assumed authority” over polling officials in the polling station, in clear violation of the Election Code of Conduct besides allegedly disrupting the smooth polling process. The NPF Chizami unit press secretary also said, that on account of his action, Therie was asked to leave the polling station , and that on his refusal to do so, only annoyed the youth, who pulled him out of pooling booth. The NPF unit press secretary also said that women folks present, had intervened and prevented any harm from being done on Therie. Further,Sapunyi Zholia also alleged that “taking law into his own hands, Mr. K Therie also gave firing order to his personal bodyguard which the bodyguard refused, knowing well fully that it would escalate the whole situation.” On the NPCC charge of breakdown of law and order, Zholia said it was totally false, as there was none who witnessed such an occurrence. The NPF functionary said “all these allegation and demand of Re-poll are out of his frustration as his position in by-poll is weak.” Further, the NPF unit also alleged that the cause of re-polling in Thetsulumi village ‘B-wing”, polling station no.16 , was due to damage of one Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), which it blamed on one Daniel Nuh who had accompanied INC candidate K.Therie, contesting the by election for the Chizami assembly constituency.
