Two persons were injured while two thatched huts and banana plantation were destroyed in a clash that erupted out of a land dispute between Diezephe and Dsethrongse villages Saturday at around 9.30 a.m. Police sources said the clash erupted when some youths from Dsethrongse village armed with country made guns and knives, went to the disputed land and destroyed the banana plantation. Dsethrongse villagers alleged that Diezephe villagers planted banana plants, dug ring well and constructed rest house on the disputed land. This set a chain reaction when villagers of both Diezephe and Dsethrongse clashed during which, a few rounds of gun fire were exchanged. One Kusayi Chakesang of Diezephe village received minor injury on the thigh, Police said. Later, Diezephe village youth went to Dsethrongse village and burned down a thatched hut belonging to one non-local Muslim family and also inflicted injuries upon him. IRB personnel were immediately rushed to the site to ease the tension in the area. Police also added that some villagers from Diezephe used the disputed land for banana plantations despite earlier court stay order regarding the land. On receiving the news, EAC Chumukedima, Henok Phom, ex-MLA, Azheto Zhimomi, SDPO Dimapur and OC Diphupar rushed to the spot to ease the tension between the warring villages. They held a meeting with the Diezephe villagers and requested them to restrain from escalating the situation. G.B Diezephe village, Kuvelhe Vasa said that some 10 rounds from country made guns were fired during the incident. He also said the village boundary dispute between the two villages was resolved in the presence of the then Deputy Commissioner, Hekali Zhimomi when a similar boundary dispute broke out earlier.
