Dismissed Meghalaya Chief Minister, Donkupar Roy today quit as the parliamentary leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and paved way for JD Rymbai, a former Congress Chief Minister-turned UDP legislator. “I have stepped down as the leader of the parliamentary party and the members of the parliamentary party have unanimously chosen JD Rymbai as their new leader,” Roy told journalists after chairing the hour-long parliamentary party meeting of the UDP at his residence here. The former Chief Minister said that his decision to quit owing moral responsibility for his failure to kept the UDP legislators intact. “We had ten MLAs while two of them resigned from the party and as members of the Assembly due to my failure. If it was not because of my failure they would have not resigned,” Roy asserted. JD Rymbai, the former Congress-turned UDP legislator who took over as the parliamentary leader of the UDP said his new task was to strengthen the party to achieve new heights.
