Inquiry committee to probe rape cases

To investigate and inquire into rape incidents in Dimapur and Zunheboto Nagaland Women Commission (NWC) has set up two separate inquiry committees headed by a convenor and three members respectively. According to a statement issued by NWC secretary, Lithrongla G Chishi the committee members would meet both the victims and accused and get their statements and submit detailed report to the commission immediately after the completion of inquiry. It also said that committee members would inquire from the investigating authorities on the status of the cases. The commission has notified that inquiry committees would begin its inquiry on April 22. It has requested Deputy Commissioners (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of particular districts to extend assistance to inquiry committee members during inquiry/investigation. To investigate into attempted murder of Tiakala and gang-rape pf Asangla in Darogapathar, Dimapur on March 25 and rape of minor girl on April 1 at Dimapur would be headed by NWC member, Abeni TCK as convener and National Commission for Women expert member, Rosemary Dzüvichü; Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) president, Khesheli and NWC legal consultant as members. With regard to rape case of a 14-year-old girl in Zunheboto on April 11 NWC member, Ellen Konyak has been assigned as convenor while Nagaland University Women Studies director, Dr. Anungla; NMA advisor, Abeu Meru and NWC legal consultant, Vezokha Nyekha has been assigned as members to probe the incident.
