Earth Day observed in Dimapur, Kohima

To mark the occasion of Earth Day, painting and drawing competition was organised at schools in Dimapur and Kohima on Wednesday. In Dimapur Earth Day was celebrated at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Project Sewak where 367 students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Project Sewak; S D Jain Higher Secondary School; Delhi Public School; Herbert Spencer School; El- Shaddai Academy and Greenwood Higher Secondary School participated in the painting competition. The theme of the paintings were ‘The environment around us’, ‘Global warming in your eyes’ and ‘The violent earth’, respectively for primary, secondary and senior secondary sections. The paintings were evaluated by a group of judges from different schools and ICAR, Medziphema. In primary section, first and second prize was won by Sweta Jha and Gwagwa of Kendriya Vidyalaya Dimapur, while the third prize was won by Megotsolie from Greenwood Higher Secondary School, Dimapur. In secondary category, first prize was bagged by Hangsa Jyoti Dhar from KV Dimapur, second prize Aman Kar from SD Jain Higher Secondary School and third prize by A. Jivito Shohe of Herbert Spencer School, Dimapur. In senior secondary category, Imyangerla Jamir from DPS Dimapur won the first prize, second prize by Nayan Kamal Kalitha from KV Dimapur and third prize by Ankesh Sharma from KV Dimapur. The first, second and third prize winners received cash prize of Rs. 1,000, Rs. 750 and Rs. 500 respectively. The event was sponsored by Ministry of Earth Sciences, government of India, New Delhi and organized by ICAR Nagaland Centre, Medziphema at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Project Sewak, Dimapur. In Kohima, joining with the rest of the world, a similar function on ‘Earth Day’ was organised at St. Mary’s Cathedral School, Lerie, Kohima. Around 200 students’ participated in drawing competition, on the theme ‘Mothering the Mother Earth’. The drawing competition was organized by ‘The Heritage Club’ of St. Mary’s Cathedral School. In his speech, the chief guest Rev. Fr. George Anthony, the principal of the school exhorted the participants to care and mother the mother earth, adding ‘together we can build our earth a better place to live in’ by various ways of environmental protection. Prizes were awarded to the winners of four categories.
