10 lakhs ransom paid

A businessman who was abducted on March 7 at railway station Dimapur by some unknown gunmen remains untraced despite relatives having paid the ransom demand of Rs.10 lakh to the abductors, police sources said here Thursday. Dy. SP special branch Dimapur, H.K. Sema disclosed the identity of the abducted person as one Abdul Hafiz (40) , a resident of Diphu under Karbianglong district, Assam. Police sources also said, the unknown abductors had earlier demanded ransom of Rs.1 crore from Abdul’s family members. Police said in an effort to have Abdul released, the relatives arranged a sum of Rs.10 lakhs which was handed over to the abductors at BOC Nagarjan area, Dimapur recently by his brother-in-law. However, till date the there was no clue as to the whereabouts of the abducted business man leading to strong suspicion that he may have been murdered by the abductors.
