Nagaland BJP president, Ato Yepthomi, arrived Dimapur on April 23 after successfully campaigning for the party in Darjeeling. Campaigning for one of the BJP national stalwarts and former union minister for defence, Jaswant Singh, who is contesting from Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat in the ensuing parliamentary election, from April 18 to 22, Nagaland BJP secretary, V. Shikuto Sema, in a press release stated the team visited different places including New Jalpaiguri, Bagdogra, Kurseong, Tung, Sonada, Ghoom, Darjeeling, Mirik and Gorupathar. Pointing out the negligence of CPI (M) led state government in West Bengal, especially in Darjeeling district, and UPA government at the centre, Jaswant Singh, assured to work with all ‘earnestness and commitments’ towards uplifting the people of the region including northeast which also included tourism related developments and failure to tap the high potentials due to ‘step motherly’ attitude of the CPI (M) led state government and the UPA government. He also expressed gratitude to the Nagaland BJP leaders for campaigning for the party in Darjeeling. Meanwhile, expressing dismay over total neglect of Darjeeling district by CPI (M) led government in West Bengal, the team also highlighted about lack of proper road infrastructures, rural housings and employment generating schemes for the rural populations and unemployed youth and acute shortages of drinking water supply especially in Darjeeling. Also expressing its regret over the neglected ‘Heritage Railway’ and the deplorable conditions of the National Highway-55 which connected the hill station with rest of West Bengal, the Nagaland BJP team after observing the present scenario in West Bengal, charged the CPI (M) led state government and the Congress that they had a common agenda to suppress the rights of the people in the context to Darjeeling for which it claimed that BJP could salvage the people from the conditions. However, Nagaland BJP unit was confident and optimistic that Jawant Singh would win the election with huge margin after seeing the support of the masses and their firm mandate with the BJP. The team has also thanked leader of BJP legislative party and minister, M.C Konyak, deputy leaders, and parliamentary secretary, Y. Patton, for their help and assistance towards Darjeeling election campaign.
