Horti dy director abducted in Imphal IMPHAL, APR 25: Deputy director of the state horticulture department has been kidnapped by suspected militants Friday night from his residence at Singjamei Chingamakha, Imphal, a highly reliable report said Saturday. Police have the report but are yet to be officially confirmed. However, local reports said that the deputy director, Huidrom Subash was kidnapped by some miscreants suspected to be militants at around 8 pm Friday night.No group or individual has yet claimed responsibility for the abduction. Correspondent Quake jolts M’laya, Assam SHILLONG, APR 25: An earthquake of moderate intensity shook Meghalaya’s capital Shillong and some parts of Assam on Saturday. The tremor, measuring a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale, occurred at 7 p.m with its epicentre at 26.4 latitude degree north and longitude 91.7 degree east in Kamrup district of Assam, about 75 km from Central Seismological Observatory (CSO) at Upper Shillong, CSO officials said. However, there was no report of loss of life and property, officials said. Correspondent 1 UPDS member held DIPHU, APR 25: The 5 Rajputna Rifles Red Horns Division of Indian Army acting on a tip off, cornered and apprehended two cadres belonging to UPDS. The two members of UPDS were carrying out extortion near Manja market by stopping individual vehicles plying along National Highway 36. The act was a gross violation of the cease fire regulations, army sources said.
