Acting on specific intelligence reports, a special team of the 24 AR launched an operation in Niu Colony, Burma Camp on Saturday and rescued two abducted businessmen during an operation besides taking to custody three activists of the GPRN/NSCN. A defence press release disclosed that at around midnight, the AR kept surveillance on a house where the businessmen were suspected to be held hostage. Three activists were caught while attempting to flee from the house and subsequently the businessmen inside the house were rescued. The two rescued businessmen were identified as - Umesh Singh and Rajiv Soni- who kept blindfolded at that time. Both were later handed over to the East Police Station Dimapur along with the three activists. One AK 56 rifle, one 9mm Pistol besides magazines and live rounds were recovered from the possession of the activists. AR said the special surveillance detachments were operational in Dimapur in conjunction with Quick Reaction Teams to thwart any attempts by factions to vitiate peace and security of the area. AR was extending support to the civil administration to maintain peace and keep civilian areas free from presence of any factional cadres. Round the clock patrolling, MVCPs and frisking of suspected vehicles would continue in order to check any movement of cadres in Dimapur town, it said.
