MHRD SSA team on 3 day visit to state

A 14 member team from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) led by Director Neelam Rao arrived Nagaland today on a three-day visit. The team will take stock of various interventions under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and explore possibilities for strengthening the interventions in 2009-10. Speaking to media persons at Hotel Saramati, Under Secretary, MHRD, Ravi Chand said the purpose of their visit was to interact with SSA officials of the state. He said the visit was nothing special in their visit as they have been visiting other states. Asked if the MHRD team was on an investigative mission, he said they were not here to investigate or find any fault in the SSA implementation in Nagaland. He also ruled out any anomalies in the implementation of SSA programme in the State. He said the Ministry reviews the implementation of SSA in all the states of the country and that Nagaland was chosen this time. The team consisting of Consultants from MHRD, IGNOU, NCERT and TSG Ed.CIL will hold a meeting with the state chief minister and top bureaucrats of the State. They will also hold parallel sessions on various issues like access, out of school children, SC/ST, drop outs, physical infrastructure, quality education, planning, management, finance and monitoring in Kohima. During the three-day visit, the MHRD team will also hold interaction and discussions with officers of SMA, DMA, SCERT, DIET, IGNOU, NU (MI), health and family welfare and PHE departments. They will also visit some government schools in Peren and Dimapur districts and interact with the VECs.
