All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AZSU) has condemned the perpetual carnage in NC Hills and the deteriorating law and order situation in the region. Condemning the incident, the AZSU (AMN) in a press release issued jointly by its president, Mirhu, and assistant general secretary, Nchaheing Kompoing, stated the ‘lackadaisical attitude’ from the law enforcing authorities had escalated the situation to a large scale violence perpetuated by ‘Armed Militants’ where innocent villagers were victimized. Also recalling the May 11 incident the union condemned the atrocities of the armed militants belonging to Dimasa who set ablaze two Zeliangrong villages (Guilong ‘A’ and ‘B’) and Taloram village, and killing of Ramsuidang, Keheuding, Sungbambe and Namgochung of Guilong village, Lungchung and a woman identified as Namgwale of Taloram village and injuring Dikelung, and burning down of a house belonging to Zeliangrong community in Haflong town. It may be mentioned that the proposed nomenclature for of NC Hills into ‘Dimasa Hasau Raji’ by the Dimasa had turned the Hills into extensive ‘violence, conflict and trouble torn zone’ for which the signatories stated that expressing one’s rights and any other form of agitations should not be through means of ‘violence’ leading to loss of lives and properties in a democratic country. Further, the union has appealed both the community to refrain from cause of violence but solve the difference through ‘democratic’ means while also apprising the government of India and Assam to immediately intervene and bring the situation under control.
