A top militant leader of the Assam based Karbi National Longri Force (KNLF) Pradip Terong alias Pongbi Dili was arrested in Megahlaya police said today. Dili, the chairman of the outfit was nabbed by the Special Operation Team of Megahalaya Police from Motinagar, one of the posh areas in Shilong, yesterday. Though police did not recover any arms or ammunition nor incriminating documents, but police are confident that a mobile seized from his possession would give Meghalaya and Assam police several leads about the activities of the KNLF, a police official said “It is a major breakthrough for us. We haven’t got the chance to interrogate Dili as our counterparts in Assam wanted to glean information from him,” East Khasi Hills District Superintendent of Police LB Rapthap said. Meanwhile, security forces said the KNLF militia chief is wanted in many cases involved directly and indirectly in the restive Assam’s Karbi Anglong and North Chachar Hills districts. KNLF, a breakaway faction of United Peoples Democratic Solidarity maintained close links with the ULFA. The KNLF provides logistic support to the ULFA in return for weapons and ammunition, besides imparting guerrilla warfare training to new recruits of the KNLF. The KNLF has a total strength of around 250 rebels fighting for “Hemprek Kangthim” which means self-determination of the tribal Karbi people in Assam
