1 held in robbery mystery case

One accused involved in robbery of Rs.18 lakhs at Axis bank May 11, who managed to evade arrest, was arrested Friday while attempting to enact the same modus operandi at SBI evening branch here around 1 p.m., police said. Giving details of the case, police said a businessman had gone to SBI evening branch to deposit Rs.98, 266 at around 12:10 p.m., but as he was filling up the deposit form, the accused identified as one Pushpender Yadav (21) son of Kishori Yadav of Bhakarpur, Bihar and presently residing at Railway station area Dimapur diverted his attention by showing few Rs.10 notes on the floor, which he had placed. In due course, Yadav snatched the bag and attempted to flee but was caught by waist before security personnel were alerted, police said adding, however, one accomplice managed to escape. Police said during interrogation Yadav confessed that he along with his accomplices had gone to Axis Bank May 11 on pretext of depositing cash and distracted two depositors while the third accomplice fled with money. The accused also confessed that the money bag which he had run off with was handed over to two accomplices who had waited outside in a bike. Police quoting Yadav’s statement said he was paid Rs.3000 by one Chandan (alleged gang leader) the same evening at railway station and Rs.1000 in another occasion. Two accomplices, who are still evading arrests have been identified as Chandan and Suresh, while the identity of one local accomplice could not be ascertained even by the arrested person, police said. It may be recalled that on May 11 an amount of Rs.18 lakh in cash, meant to be deposited in favour of Karnex Trading Company by two employees of Hariram Baliram Enterprises at Axis Bank, Circular Road, Dimapur was robbed off by miscreants. Police team led by Dimapur ASP, V.Z Angami had rushed to the spot to investigate the matter but no one could provide any clues except footage of the CCTV.
