Lt Gen Avadhesh Prakash, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, Colonel of the Kumaon and Naga Regiments and the first officer to be commissioned directly into the Naga Regiment paid a maiden visit to Nagaland on May15 and 16.
Addressing a Special Sainik Sammelan organized at the Headquarter 164 Naga Territorial Army (H&H) Battalion Zakhama, the General stressed on the role of the Naga youth to play an important and constructive role in shaping up and strengthening the country in general and Nagaland in particular.
Emphasizing on the sanction accorded for the creation of two more battalions for the Naga Regiment, he said plans have already been chalked out to raise one Infantry Battalion and the other a Territorial Army battalion at the earliest.
A good gesture, that would provide employment for hundreds of aspiring Naga youth to join the uniformed services. In addition, the General also interacted with the ex-servicemen of the Naga Regiment on various issues.
Lt Gen Avadhesh also called on the honourable Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio at his residence. He also visited the Kohima war cemetery and paid floral tributes to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the World War II.
The Generals visit was a motivating factor for the ex-servicemen and jawans of the Naga Regiment and was welcomed by one and all.
