The Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) legislators on Wednesday huddled up together for a four-hour long marathon meeting at the State Banquet Hall, Kohima. This was the first meeting after the recent Lok Sabha and by-elections in the state. Reliable sources who attended the meeting disclosed that the meeting was mostly confined on departmental issues and development related things, wherein ministers and parliamentary secretaries were asked to present their reports to which department(s) they were holding. The chief minister was also keen that the ministers and parliamentary secretaries who could not present their reports would have to do so in the next meeting, the source added. However the meeting did not discuss about the much talked reshuffling of the DAN ministry. Sources also down played the reshuffling talk and quoted the chief minister and stated that “it was a bazaar and market talk.” Last month during a press conference, state chief minister, Neiphiu Rio ruled out immediate reshuffle of his 14 month-old DAN ministry “at least for the time being.” He had said that though the time might come for reshuffling but not immediately and added that it was a big house and an exercise that needed discussion. Reliable sources said that reshuffling of ministry was mostly likely to take place only after Assembly session, which starts on July 7. “We might go for expansion of parliamentary secretaries, but we cannot say anything” a close confident of the chief minister told this correspondent. “It is the prerogative of the Chief Minister either to reshuffle or go for expansion,” he said. The ruling DAN coalition consists of NPF-32, NCP-2, and six other Independent legislators. The opposition bench has 20 MLAs including 19 Congress and an Independent.
