In a fresh development which the students described as “very surprising,” the NU VC, Prof K. Kannan has terminated Professor Incharge (PIC), Prof. T. Lanusosang of Lumami campus and appointed A.K Singh from political science department as the new PIC. The PGSU (L) told this Correspondent that the termination order of PIC has been received today and added that the order did not state any reasons for the termination. The students termed the termination order as “very surprising” as Prof. Lanusosang was supposed to complete his tenure as PIC only on June 28, 2009. The shifting of the departments to the new building has been put on hold after the VC assured the PGSU (L) on Tuesday that the handing and taking over of the building between the NU and the National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) would be completed by June 8. The PGSU (L) is upbeat about the assurance from the VC and expected that the handing and taking over would be completed on the assured date. Besides the shifting of the departments, the students have also expressed hope that the whole administration, the academic, quarters for officials and also the Vice Chancellor’s quarter would be shifted as soon as the handing and taking over was completed. According to the students, the shifting of the HQ was expected to take place from May 20, 2009 and the normal functioning of the NU from its Lumami HQ to be started from June 1, 2009. It may be mentioned that the NSF has also supported the demands of the PGSU (L) and has also cautioned the NU authorities to sincerely put into action the infrastructural needs of the postgraduate students in the state.
