2 arrested in fake certificate racket

While investigating cases of stolen vehicles with fake registration papers in Dimapur, Police acting on tip off, stumbled on a gang involved in issuing sale and registration documents and various certificates after raiding rooms behind a pharmacy that served as a front for the racket in Dimapur Monday. Briefing media persons at East PS here today, SP Dimapur Lirimo Lotha disclosed that two members of the racketing gang- Kakishe Assumi (30) of Litami village, resident of Thilixu and another accomplice, Sayan Acharjee (32) of Hojai- were arrested while the main accused, identified as one Kiyeto Zhimomi of Vikhuho village, Kuhuboto, resident of Thilixu, also reportedly a former evangelist of a well known English language church, was absconding till the time of filing the report. The gang used a pharmacy (Sumi Health Care Pharmacy) located at MST Road, near Chakhesang Baptist Church, as a front office while carrying out the nefarious activities in the rooms behind the pharmacy. SP Dimapur Liremo Lotha, disclosed that the raid on the office was conducted by a team led by OC East PS, Atu Zumvu where several blank registration documents of vehicles of various states, car manuals, sale deeds, seals of various officials and computer sets along with printers were seized. The office rooms used for preparing the fake documents and certificates were well furnished and equipped with Xerox machine, computers, laser printers etc. Police said the accused Kakishe disclosed that the racket had been going on for the past two to three years. He also revealed that clients were charged Rs. 1000 for making the registration certificates and Rs. 3000 if insurance papers were also included. A sum of Rs. 500 was charged for making fake driving licenses, he disclosed. Police also recovered a Mahindra Scorpio (Grey) bearing Chassis number – BD34F41948 and engine number-MA1TA2BDC32F81084 from the accused. Police sources also disclosed that a well organized inter-state gang is involved in trading stolen vehicles within and outside Nagaland and fake documents provided by racketeers.
