In continuing clashes between the warring Dimasa and Zeme-Naga tribes, three females were killed in trouble-torn North Cachar Hill district of Assam, police said today. Bodies of three Zeme-Naga females were found from Herileka village last night, police said, adding it was suspected that they were killed by Dimasa activists. At least 21 people belonging to two communities have been killed and more than 150 houses set ablaze in the ethnic violence in the hill district this month. The DHD (J) outfit of the Dimasa tribe, whose chief Jewel Garlosa was arrested from Bangalore early this month, has been involved in violence against NSCN groups. AZSU condemns All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AZSU) has strongly condemned the killing of three Zeliangrong women by Dimasa miscreants in Hegolo village June 29, the same day where a peace rally was held in Dimapur organized by the Zeliangrong Baudi and Dimasa Public Organization. AZSU president Mirhu and assistant general secretary Nchaheing in a joint press statement identified the victims as Mrs. Keyirialungle (42) and two of her daughters Sangkilungle (14) and Heuchuhungle (10). According to the union, both the children were studying in Haflong town and had gone to village on a summer vacation. The union leaders said the victims were butchered mercilessly by Dimasa miscreants while they were returning from their field in Hegolo village. Terming the killing of helpless woman and children as an act of cowardice, the union alleged that the Dimasa miscreants were the first to start the violence. The AZSU described the violence committed by Dimasa miscreants upon innocent Zeliangrong public as “beyond tolerance,” and called upon all sections of society to condemn such acts of killing.
