LPG pilferage racket busted in Dimapur

Chumukedima Town Block –IV youths June 30 at around 9 p.m. apprehended one person in connection with pilferage and sale of LPG cylinders to customers in interior districts. According to sources, the accused identified as one Narayan Rao of Andhra Pradesh confessed to nexus among drivers and handyman of LPG laden trucks bound for interior districts, who after pilfering gas delivered lesser quantity of cylinders to customers. The accused who reportedly worked as handyman and employed at LPG bottling plant, 7 mile earlier, had gone absconding for the last few months, sources said. On interrogation, the accused confessed that drivers and handyman of LPG trucks after crossing Dimapur pilfer around one to two kgs of LPG from each cylinder intended for places such as Wokha, Zunheboto, Phek, Pfutsuro and Tseminyu. After pilfering, LPG was refilled to other empty cylinders and sold to public in black market. The accused also confessed that they had sold nineteen- twenty cylinders from a Phek bound LPG truck.Meanwhile, the accused was later handed over to Diphupar police station along with recovered cylinder. Further investigation was on to nab other culprits, police added.
