Expedite all Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan pending activities: Banuo Z Jamir

Additional chief secretary school education and SCERT Banuo Z Jamir Thursday asked district functionaries of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) to expedite all pending activities under SSA especially in the civil works department. Chairing the two-day review meeting of District Mission Authority (DMA), at DUDA guest house Kohima, Banuo stressed on timely completion of all pending works and also set different time period for the works, including both spill over and for Civil Works allotted for 2008-09, to be completed for all the districts. Touching on the various interventions under SSA, the additional chief secretary said focus of SSA was on quality and the DMA personnel should ensure that quality was maintained under all the interventions of SSA. She urged State Mission Authority (SMA) and DMA to maintain a schedule of action plan reflecting on the Annual Work Plan and Budget and thereby work according to the set Plan. She however maintained that communication and coordination between the SMA and DMA is essential to carry forward the activities of SSA in a proper and coordinated manner. Stating that Work Education, which was introduced to Government Middle Schools under SSA to enhance the life skills of students beyond the classroom teachings, Banuo urged for innovative ways to enthuse the students to take up these activities. In this, she mooted the idea of engaging local professionals engaged in woodcraft, aero-modelling, apiculture, horticulture etc. She however said that the responsible departments should be involved so that optimum benefit could be derived through experts from these departments.On reports of shortfall and excess in distribution of raincoats, the additional chief secretary asked all the districts to submit the reports from the various EBRCs so as to assess the reason why there was shortfall or excess as these reflect on the overall status of student enrolment and school drop-outs, which she said is of major concern. She further asked the DMAs to furnish the detailed status reports on Computer Aided Learning (CAL). In the afternoon session, the meeting deliberated on the issue of Alternative and Innovative Education. On the second day of the review meeting July 3, SMA, SSA mission director Angau I Thou will chair the meeting where issues of Quality, Activity Based Learning, Children with Special Needs, District Information System for Education and Web Portal under SSA will be deliberated upon.
