Union Minister of State Vincent H. Pala has opposed the legalisation of homosexuality by decriminalising Section 377 of the IPC. ‘’I am not in favour of the recent Delhi High Court’s ruling which struck down Section 377 of the IPC and decriminalized homosexuality,’’ Pala, who holds the Water Resources portfolio in the Manmohan Singh Cabinet, said here over the phone. His opposition to the Court’s ruling assumed significance in the wake of Union Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khursheed claiming that there was no conflict of opinion in the government over Delhi High Court’s ruling decriminalising homosexual relations. Making it clear that he was not in favour of such ruling, the Congress MP from Shillong Parliamentary constituency said the Court ruling had also generated lots of criticism and mixed reactions in the national capital and other parts of the country. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Law had already initiated a discussion on Delhi High Court’s landmark ruling. (Correspondent)
