Any agreement or understanding that might have been reached between one Kahovi Awomi and the accused, Tito A. Kiba in connection with April 11 rape case in Zunheboto has been nullified by four unions of Lizutomi village. The rape victim hails from Lizutomi village. During its meeting on July 3 at Circuit House Dimapur, the Lizutomi Village Council, Lizutomi Union Zunheboto, Kohima and Dimapur deliberated on the involvement of Kahovi Awomi for accepting Rupees 25, 000 in the name of ‘Sumi Customary Law’ without any consultation or prior approval from the family, GBs and Lizutomi Village Council. Condemning the “savage act” of Tito A. Kiba and “selfish act” of Kahovi, the four unions resolved not to mediate or involve in such cases that Kahovi and his families might face in near future. Dimapur Lizutomi Kuqhakulu vice president, Kashito Aomi in a statement issued on behalf of the four unions said they also condemned the act of Nihovi Katty and Tohezu Kiba in not co-operating with the unions of Lizutomi village in the case. The unions of Lizutomi village henceforth decided not to extend their co-operation to Nihovi Katty and Tohezu Kiba and their families in such cases in near future. The unions also condemned the involvement of Sumi Kukami Hoho president, GB Kakihe and Zunheboto Town Council Member, Nitoyi Awomi for standing as witnesses in the “wrong usage of Sumi Customary Law.” Affirming strong support to Sumi Totimi Hoho (STH), the four unions said they shall extend all possible services to the case taken up by the Hoho till logical conclusions were arrived at with regard to the incident.
